Before you start

To add your email account to a Samsung phone, you will need a few details from your email provider. In most cases, business email should be set up using IMAP. This keeps your emails synced across your phone, computer and webmail.

Important: on Samsung and Android phones, the outgoing username and password may appear as optional. For most business email accounts, they are not optional. Enter your full email address and mailbox password for the outgoing mail server as well.

Step-by-step Samsung email setup

Follow these steps to add your business email account to your Samsung phone using the Gmail app.

Open the Gmail app Open the Gmail app on your Samsung phone. This app can manage both Gmail and business email accounts.

Open your account menu Tap your profile picture or initials in the top right corner of the screen.

Add another account Tap Add another account. If you already have several accounts listed, scroll if needed.

Choose Other Select Other. This is usually the correct option for a business email address that uses your own domain name.

Enter your email address Enter your full business email address, then tap Manual setup if Samsung asks how you want to continue.

Select Personal IMAP Choose Personal IMAP. IMAP is normally best for business email because it keeps your mailbox synced across devices.

Enter the incoming mail server Add your incoming mail server, username, password, port and security type. Your username is normally your full email address.

Troubleshooting

If the account does not work straight away, the problem is usually one of four things: the password, the server name, the port number, or the outgoing mail authentication.

If receiving does not work

Check the incoming server name.
Check the IMAP port is set to 993.
Check SSL/TLS is selected.
Re-enter the mailbox password carefully.

If sending does not work

Check the outgoing SMTP server name.
Check the SMTP port is set to 465.
Check SSL/TLS is selected.
Make sure the outgoing username and password are filled in.

Sending problems are often caused by missing outgoing authentication. Samsung may suggest some outgoing details are optional, but most business email accounts still require them.
